Welwyn Garden City Free Church
An open, worshipping fellowship that brings the love of
Christ to the people of Welwyn Garden City

About Us

About UsOur main Church service is held each Sunday morning at 10:30am.

The service commences with a twenty minute or so ‘Family Time’ before the children and young people leave to join their different junior church groups for their own lively activities.

We run a crèche for the under 3 year olds throughout the whole service when needed.

We recognise that there are many different ways to worship, some people like silence and contemplation while others like a more lively style. Our worship blends informality and congregation participation with traditional and contemporary, the music reflects this. Preaching from the Bible is relevant to our life today.

You will find laughter, activity, quiet prayerful contemplation, awe and time to wonder. We use Rejoice and Sing and Kidsource for our hymns, accompanied by piano or organ.

The fourth Sunday of each month is an All Age Worship service when the children remain with their families for the whole service. This service has more involvement of members of the congregation, the junior church groups or the Girls and Boys Brigade. The worship style is lively with loads of participation as we explore a theme rooted in the Bible.

On the first Sunday of each month we celebrate Holy Communion in which everyone is invited to share bread and wine as Jesus did with his disciples. You don't have to be a member of the Free Church or any church to receive bread and wine. The invitation is open to all who love the Lord.

In the afternoon of the first Sunday of the month there is an informal worship time we call ‘Praise Café’. There are refreshments and topical discussions around tables – café style – encouraging all ages to participate together in a lively and informative way. We are just developing this worship time so come and join in – anything could happen!

On the fourth Sunday of every month we also have a quiet and meditative Holy Communion service from 4:00-5:00 pm.

Baptisms, blessings and dedications are usually performed as part of the normal Sunday service. Throughout the year there are a number of special services for Easter, Christmas, Pentecost and Harvest as well as joint services with other churches in addition to weddings and funeral and thanksgiving services with an annual Remembrance Service in May, for all who wish to remember loved ones who have died.
